Bio

Vilma Rimpelä (born 1995) is an impact producer, filmmaker, and photographer based on Tampere, Finland. Vilma is one of the founders of RARE, a next-generation media for the youth by the youth. Vilma's background is in photography studies at Lahti Institute of Arts and Design (BA). They have been working as an entrepreneur since 2014, first with photography, commercial filmmaking, and short documentaries, and after that with RARE in the fields of journalism, impact work, and media & event production. The issue areas of focus in their work are social impact, equality, inclusitivity, and youth. As a documentarist, Vilma has been working on the topic of being an outsider and the urge of belonging. Vilma Rimpelä has been nominated as finalist of Ashoka Nordics' Young Changemaker of the Year in 2021 and 2022, selected in Canon Student Programme residence in Italy in 2019, and awarded Helsingin Sanomat's The 35 Most Promising Forerunners Under 35 in 2021. With RARE, they have won Uutisraivaaja innovation contest in 2019 and 2023, and Think Ink innovation contest in 2023.
