Since 2021 Tess van Bommel works as project officer for the International Support programme and Activist programme of Movies that Matter. With the International Support programme, Movies that Matter provides support to human rights film festivals worldwide with funds, training, workshops, networks and advice. Tess is also coordinating the secretariat of the Human Rights Film Network, a network of around 50 human rights film festivals worldwide. As part of the annual Movies that Matter Festival, Tess works on one of the main competition programmes called Activist that presents documentaries about human rights defenders, who are invited to the festival to participate in an impact and network programme. Prior Tess has worked for different international human rights and/or development organisations in The Netherlands focusing on gender equality, climate justice and support for human rights defenders.
