Bio
Sofia is an impact producer at Dua Pulau Digital (2ID) in Jakarta and founder of East Cinema, a film program that focuses on conflict/minority places in the world and East Indonesian issues. She holds a master‘s degree at Jakarta Institute of Arts. Her thesis was about film curatorial work that focuses on Papuan films. In 2011 she worked at Five Flavors Film Festival, in Warsaw and in the same year, she became a guest programmer at the film festival, Asian Hot Shots, in Berlin. In 2013 she became one of the authors of the book “Indonesian Women Filmmakers” published by Regiospectra, Berlin. In 2019 she was invited to be a judge at the Al-Nahj Film Festival in Karbala-Iraq and became the first female judge for the festival. She was involved with Madani International Film Festival in Jakarta from the first year of the festival and became the co-director for the period 2022-2023. She used to work at Indonesia's largest documentary organization (In-Docs) and various festivals at home and abroad before starting as an impact producer in 2020. She likes issues on “Migration”, “Identity Crisis”, “Human Rights”, and “Environmental”. Several films where Sofia served as an impact producer or impact manager include "Help Is On The Way" (2019), which is about Indonesian migrant workers, "Homebound" (2022), also about Indonesian migrant workers, and "Ininnawa: An Island Calling" (2022), which focuses on female healthcare workers. These films have won various awards at international film festivals and the Indonesian Film Festival.
