Bio

Shahida Tulaganova is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker. Born and raised in Uzbekistan, she is based inLondon, UK. She began her career in journalism with BBC News in 1996 and gained her first experience in documentaries at BBC Current Affairs Documentaries. As an experienced war reporter, she has worked in Syria, Afghanistan, Eastern Ukraine, the Palestinian Territories, and Somalia. Her recent films focus on the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on children, including Children of Ukraine (ITV, 2022) and Ukraine’s Stolen Children (ITV, 2023). Shahida produced and directed her first independent feature documentary, Exiled, about the genocide of Rohingya Muslims. Her film Airport Donetsk, which captures the epic battle during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, won first prize at the ArtDocFest festival. In 2007, she produced How to Plan a Revolution, a story about young pro-democracy activists fighting for change in authoritarian Azerbaijan. The film won the Prix Europa for Best Current Affairs Television Program (2006). She also co-produced Cries From Syria, directed by Evgeny Afineevsky, which earned her an Emmy nomination.
