Bio
Reina-Marie is an award-winning filmmaker and Principal Academic based at Bournemouth University in the UK. Her work centres on documentary and docudrama. She has previously directed and produced a short film called 'Cutting Silence' (2008), which screened at the Durban International Film Festival where she received the award for Best Newcomer. She then completed a practice-based PhD for which she made a film about the memories of survivors of the siege of Sarajevo ('Sarajevo: Shelved Memories'). In 2014, she completed a feature documentary about the social side of rhino poaching in South Africa called 'HORN' (2014) and is currently impact producing another documentary focused on elephant conservation and indigenous rights in the Congo Basin. Academically, she focuses on enhancing impact production education and is engaged in projects related to human rights film. She was just selected to be the editor of a new journal linking human rights and the media. The journal (Journal of Media and Rights) will launch in 2024 and intends to also shine a light specifically on impact production.
