Bio

Rebecca Sheehan is a documentary film producer from Birmingham, Alabama. She has over a decade of community-focused journalism and filmmaking experience. As a writer, she was peer-voted Best Reporter by The Auburn Plainsman and received the Society of Professional Journalist's Southeast Mark of Excellence Award for her column. Her background in journalism informs her sensibilities as a documentary producer in ethical storytelling: unafraid to speak the truth; not swayed by bias or intimidation; transparent and accountable. After the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are considered "children" under state law in February 2024—throwing IVF treatment into turmoil in the state, leaving families in anxiety—Rebecca began pursuing impact producing in earnest. As a representative of the deep south, Rebecca brings an acute passion for examining the issues of equality and freedom in what is known as the Bible Belt of the country. Personal experiences have given her to a passion for issues affecting the LBTQ+ community, religious trauma, mental health care, disability rights, early childhood education, healthcare and gender equality. Her film credits include JASPER MALL, DISCOUNT FUNERAL, DWARF STORY, and THE SPIRIT OF HALLOWEENTOWN.
