Bio

I'm Phoebe, 31 years old, and I am committed to my mission of integrating mental health with art, specifically through filmmaking. In 2014, I earned a fully funded scholarship from Nassef Sawiris, an Egyptian philanthropist, to transfer my study to the University of Chicago, USA, in partnership with Cairo University's Faculty of Economics and Political Science. Despite starting with a major in economics, this program allowed me to explore cinema and media studies, culminating in the creation of my first documentary film alongside my project peers. After my graduation, and returning home, I crossed paths with great mentors in the field of marketing and communications, which inspired me to explore the creative and strategic side of this field. Through my seven-year diverse experience in marketing, I have gained a multifaceted knowledge of working on launching campaigns and measuring their success and effectiveness. I am currently immersed in the creation of a series of short films that reflect on and explore the journey of a 30-year old woman, struggling to find her own unique balance in a world of extreme existential, emotional and physical contradictions. Additionally, I am a passionate Creative Writer in both Arabic and English, and I also work on freelance projects as a marketing consultant. In essence, my journey has been a fusion of economics, cinema, marketing, and creative writing, shaping me into a storyteller eager to illuminate the complexities of the human experience. As I weave personal and sociopolitical narratives through my current film project and engage in freelance marketing consultancy, I remain steadfast in my commitment to fostering impactful conversations around mental health and societal paradoxes. Through the lens of film and the power of storytelling, I aspire to contribute meaningfully to the understanding of the very unique individual experiences that create our collective reality and consciousness.
