Bio

Phil Wilmot (any pronouns) is an impact producer with the feminist afrofuturist film and storytelling collective Shagika. The first film Phil produced was in 2014, chronicling peasant resistance to forced evictions and land grabs in northern Uganda. Phil later joined Shagika as a music supervisor, mostly for short films. Now Phil is producing two vérité documentaries, including The Woman Who Poked The Leopard—following the iconic and controversial feminist political prisoner Stella Nyanzi—which has won several prestigious awards across three continents. Outside of film, Phil is a community organizer with several political struggles in East Africa, and educates leaders of social movements on strategy, including through a podcast called Troublemakers. Phil is always eager to share strategy resources with fellow impact producers who are new to building collective power through film. Phil also writes poetry, makes music, and creates visual art.
