Bio

Nidhi Girish Salian is a lawyer turned documentary filmmaker with eight years of directing and producing experience. Her approach to filmmaking is hands-on and research oriented. Her legal experience facilitates a deeper understanding of the intersections of law and policy, and their effects on Indian society. She is most comfortable developing, and executing long-form, non-fiction formats that explore subaltern culture and social consciousness.

Nidhi has produced and directed multiple projects charting the rise of Indian hip-hop with Kya Bolta Bantai and VICE Raps, led research for Audible's podcast series Gully Se Gully Tak and brand crossovers with BudX's India leg (to-be released). During her time at VICE she researched, developed and produced stories across Asia, on identity, culture, gender and sexuality - including Finding Love, a short documentary on the Nupi Maanbi community in Imphal and the award-winning क se Crime, for Amazon Prime Video.

She last led research and story on Murder in a Courtroom, the latest instalment of Indian Predator, a Netflix Original true crime docu series, produced by Vice Studios. Currently, she is the creative producer on a documentary feature for Sikhya Entertainment, slated for 2023 Netflix release.
