Bio

Nicole is Director of Development at Doc Society, a non-profit founded in 2005 that’s committed to enabling great documentary films and connecting them to audiences globally. After eight years at Doc Society’s headquarters in London, Nicole moved back to the Netherlands in 2018 to open and lead the European office. She trains and creates impact strategies with documentary makers and impact producers around the world on how to use their films as a strategic tool for social and environmental change. Nicole works with and coaches cultural organisations to create a more sustainable infrastructure in their region(s). She also develops new and innovative partnerships with civil society organizations, including foundations, philanthropists, NGO’s, companies, policymakers, government agencies and media. She is currently in her element by building a new European Fund for Documentary Journalism. This fund will support the production and impact distribution of short and long independent journalistic stories by European filmmakers with the aim to contribute to a more sustainable media ecosystem. Nicole is a JustFilms Fellow at the Rockwood Leadership Institute in the United States. Before joining Doc Society over 11 years ago, she worked as a broadcast journalist for RTL News and Al Jazeera. Nicole completed her MA in International Journalism with honors in Wales in 2008 and has previously lived in the UK, USA and South Africa.
