Bio

Nadine ASMAR (born on November 29, 1994) is a Lebanese director and screenwriter. She got her Bachelor’s degree in Cinema and TV from the Lebanese University and her Master’s degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from Paris 1 University. She's currently pursuing her PhD degree in Film Studies at the University of Western Brittany in France. She is also an alumna of Talents Beirut (Berlinale Talents) 2019 and 2021, Beirut-Locarno Industry Academy International 2019, and Impact Lab Lebanon/Syria 2022. She wrote and directed her senior short film, The Blind of the Cathedral (2015), a first-time adaptation of a novel by Farjallah Haïk, selected in over 60 film festivals and winner of 11 awards including Best Short Fiction Film, Director, Actor, and Actress. Her second short film, Perhaps Today… (2017), was screened in numerous film festivals and received 7 prizes. Moreover, she gained experience by working in different departments in a number of award-winning shorts and features, including the two Lebanese Academy Award® nominated films, The Insult (2017) and Capernaum (2018). Nadine is also a film programmer and curator, and a co-founder and producer of MovieTailor Pictures, a film production company based in Beirut. She's currently developing her third short film and is co-producting a short Pakistani documentary, In Zainab's Heaven, recipient of Hot Docs' CrossCurrents International Doc Fund 2022.
