Bio

Mel Butler (she/her) has been creating winning campaigns for documentary media and social movements for over a decade. She currently oversees film campaigns at Peace is Loud, an intersectional feminist organization that uses documentary as a tool for social change. Previously, she was a consultant with the documentary collective New Day Films, and was the Impact Producer for Water Warriors, which is highlighted as a model of successful engagement in Doc Society's Impact Field Guide. Mel holds an MA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia and a BA in Cinema Studies and Political Science from the University of Toronto. Her writing on media and activism has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals, textbooks and popular magazines. Mel lives on Vancouver Island, as a guest on the unceded lək̓ʷəŋən Traditional Territory of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
