Bio

Born in Mumbai, India, Meghna migrated to the United States in 2002 as a newly wed to her childhood sweetheart, leaving behind a successful advertising and marketing career to find that she would not be able to work or have any income for the next 5 years because of her visa status as a dependent spouse. She took on the battle for work authorization for dependent spouses as a personal fight and has dedicated over 13 years of her life to advocating and creating an impact campaign with her autobiographical film “Hearts Suspended” that broke the silence on the issue of H-4 Dependent Spouses in the US. She created a media impact campaign that mobilized communities and stakeholders and engaged and lobbied with diverse groups to shift narratives and obtain work authorization for about 179,600 H-4 visa holders in the US. “Hearts Suspended” Featured on POV’s “To the Contrary” & NPR’s “Here & Now shows”, aired on National TV (NDTV) in India, got a Special Jury Mention at Jeevika film festival (India) and screened at the NYIFF (New York Indian Film Festival), Chashama Film festival (NY), Tasveer Film Festival, Seattle, Migrations film festival (Canada) and was acquired by academic institutions - Brandeis University & NYU. Meghna advocated by sharing her film and personal story at Immigration-focused panels and lobbied on Capitol Hill with SAALT, NCAPA and NAPAWF. She created and led a consistent impact campaign over 10 years that engaged and mobilized audiences, individuals, communities, media and organizations culminating in a grassroots movement that resulted in change in legislation. The current administration threatens to revoke the hard-fought work authorization granted to thousands of immigrant women. Meghna continues to fight for them with her CAAM funded short documentary “Dreams Uprooted” currently in production. Meghna is founder of Treasure Tower Films, a multimedia company with a mission to make films that celebrate human potential.
