Bio

Brazilian Filmmaker and Impact Producer who seeks to film as a means of (self)transforming. His productions have been in more than 60 festivals with different awards, with emphasis on MARIA LUIZA, a feature with the first trans woman in the Brazilian Armed Forces, presented at GOOD PITCH Brasil 2021. The debate and visibility generated by the film has positively impacted the Brazilian Supreme Court, which decided that Maria Luiza must retire in the highest position in the Air Force and mention the documentary as a proof of discrimination suffered by her (marialuizafilme.com.br). The film was premiered at IT’S ALL TRUE Festival and awarded as Best Documentary at Merlinka Queer Film Festival (Serbia), Best International Documentary at Humano Film Festival (Mexico) and Honorale Mention at Latino & Iberian FF, Yale (USA). In 2023 Marcelo films THE WIND WILL BLOW, a journey through the river in Javari Valley and the memories of two women anthropologists, an indigenous Marubo and an non-indigenous, in an Amazon that no longer exists. Recently he acted as a mediator at the 1st Latin American Social Impact Film Forum (Jun/2022, São Paulo, Taturana, Docco Lab, Ambulante, DocSociety).
