Currently based on Maui, Leah has a BA in Japanese language from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and has earned multiple Social Impact Certificates from UPenn. In 2018, she gave a TEDx Talk entitled “How Do You Cope With The Trauma You Didn’t Experience?” Her most recent feature doc BIG SONIA won 22 awards, screened at The White House, qualified for an Academy Award, and is currently airing on PBS. This year (2024) Leah is launching a theatrical screening and impact tour across the country for her short film UNCLE BULLY’S SURF SKOOL, filmed in Lahaina (and winner of the HIFF Audience Award), and finishing another feature doc filmed on Maui called ONE GRAND. Through her production company Inflatable Film, Leah enjoys developing impact and outreach campaigns for clients and consulting with filmmakers about how to maximize audience and impact. Her most recent endeavor is an educational AI project for classrooms and museums launching this year with her grandmother (and Holocaust survivor), Sonia. Leah values authenticity, grit, and resilience, and she’s passionate about ocean conservation, adventure travel and cetaceans.
