Bio

Julie Nederkoorn brings over a decade of experience in international film and film festivals, where she has contributed as a programmer, moderator, advisor, panellist, juror, reader, decision-maker, and workshop facilitator across numerous global festivals and markets. Driven by a deep belief in the power of cinema and storytelling to inspire change, she is committed to using film as a catalyst for a more just world.

Since joining Movies that Matter in 2015, Julie has grown into her current role as Head of the International Programme and Head of Industry. In this capacity, she manages the Industry programme at the Movies that Matter Festival and supports human rights film festivals across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, —providing funding, training, strategic guidance, and access to a global network. She also oversees the yearround programming in the Netherlands and the Activist Lens programme, which showcases documentaries on human rights defenders at the Movies that Matter Festival, and managed the Human Rights Film Network, a global partnership of more than 50 festivals.

Prior to this, Julie worked as Partnership Coordinator at MasterPeace and held communications and project roles across various organizations. She holds a BSc in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies from Radboud University and an MA in Conflict Studies & Human Rights from Utrecht University.
