Bio
Dr Julia Hammett-Jamart is Managing Director of Catalyst Films and a pioneer of the French impact production sector, working with producers of film, television and immersive media to bring about concrete, constructive change in the world. Recent projects include the multi-award winning Zinder (France/Niger), the feature documentary Inside Gaza (2025 Movies that Matter 'DocsConnect Impact Award', 2024 Sunnyside of the Doc 'Best Global Issues Pitch') and a forthcoming VR experience, Gut Instinct (Venice Biennale GFM 2025).
Julia brings to impact producing a wealth of experience in film and television production, policy and education in the Australian, European and African contexts. She is former Déléguée Générale of Best Impact Movies (BIM) and former Manager of Governance and Strategic Planning at Screen Australia. She has produced and directed both documentaries and fiction - for public broadcaster SBS-TV, AFTRS and AFI Distribution, amongst others - and has published widely on the subject of film production and policy, including the reference work 'European Film and Television Co-production: policy and practice' (Palgrave Macmillan 2018).
Julia holds a PhD in Social Sciences, Media and Communication and has led impact workshops and masterclasses for key international industry festivals and organisations including Venice Biennale College (Cinema Immersive), Festival de Cannes (Netherlands Film Academy), New Images Festival, EURODOC, Le Sommet des Arcs, La Fabrique des Formats and l'Institut National de l'Histoire d'Art, as well as KATUU, the annual residency for female filmmakers in Togo.
In 2025, Julia inaugurated France's first dedicated university course in impact producing and sustainability at the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle.
Under the auspices of the Coproduction Research Network, Julia undertakes consultancies for high level public institutions and private NGOs including the European Audiovisual Observatory (Council of Europe), Produire au Sud coproduction workshop (Festival Trois Continents) and STEPS South Africa.
