Bio

I am a Nigerian Film Director, Screenwriter, Producer, and Cultural Entrepreneur. My new film, No U-Turn, received a Special Jury Mention Award at the Berlin International Film Festival - Berlinale 2022. Since its premier at the Berlinale, No U-Turn has screened at over 11 notable international film festivals and recently won the highly coveted Artistic Bravery Award at Durban International Film Festival. No U-Turn also won the Africa Academy Awards Best Documentary Film in Africa (AMAA) and Best Documentary Film at Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). In the film, I, a mid-aged multi-award-winning Nigerian filmmaker, go on a mission to relive my early adulthood experience of trying to travel to Europe by road. No U-Turn was commissioned by ARTE with additional funding from World Cinema Fund (WCF), CNC Selective Fund, Region Ile de France. As the Founder and CEO of LP House of Creatives, I am building a network of Creative Hubs across Africa and some select cities around the globe to create safe spaces for African Creatives to thrive. I am also the founder of Passion8 Communications Ltd, a premium media content production company based in Lagos Nigeria. I am fondly regarded as one of the champions of the emerging new African cinema. My first commercial film, "FALSE," continues to generate lots of buzz within the film community and among African movie fans. FALSE, which I wrote and directed, was released in Oct 2013 and won a Golden Icon Academy Award (GIAMA) that same year out of the three nominations which the movie received. FALSE went on to receive 12 nominations at Nollywood Movie Awards that same year, making it the highest nominated movie of the year. My 2017 film, Sink or Swim, won Best Narrative Feature at the 2017 Newark International Film Festival and has received several nominations and official selections at notable international film festivals around the globe. Sink or Swim is an epic; thought-provoking movie about irregular migration and human trafficking. The film has an Inter-Continental cast drawn from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia, and Cote D'Ivoire. In 2018, my film Loving Daniella, about love and mental illness, earned three nominations at the Las Vegas Black Film Festival and claimed the Best Actress trophy. Loving Daniella was released in the Caribbean and Nigerian Cinemas the same year. I am also the founder of Treasurewells Academy and the Host of Breaking into Nollywood with Ike Nnaebue Workshop, which I have successfully hosted in Lagos, New York, Atlanta (twice), and Dallas (twice). I am very passionate about sharing with young Africans the know-how of Smartphone Filmmaking.
