Bio

Elena is a filmmaker specialised in creative production and management . After a BA in Media and Communication and an MA in Film Studies, she began working as a runner and worked her way up to production manager, overseeing different productions in the UK and Europe. Throughout her career she has collaborated with award winning producers and directors while at the same time nurturing her identity as a filmmaker. In 2018, she founded OxyGene Film Productions, through which she produced short films and documentaries that screened at International Film Festivals, and was selected as a Future Producer at Sheffield Doc Fest. Elena’s commitment to community service and her desire to make a positive impact through filmmaking redirected her career path towards social impact projects. She’s currently in pre-production with “Mildred” her debut documentary as a director. The film narrates the coming-of-age journey of an indigenous woman, set against the backdrop of her community's struggle against the largest open-air coal mine in Latin America. Elena draws inspiration from the main principles of ‘Third Cinema’, seeing the director as part of a collective. She is surrounded by a community of filmmakers that have been supporting her throughout this creative journey.
