Bio
Born and raised in Southern Africa, it is where my obsession with nature and wildlife started. A childhood inside the confusing and unjust environment of the day in apartheid South Africa no doubt also shaped who I am today. I am ignited by injustices and driven by the need to serve those vulnerable to, and affected by it. I am a wildlife conservation impact producer and documentary producer/director with fourteen years’ experience in the mainstream UK television industry. After spending four years at National Geographic Television International working in distribution, sales, co-productions and acquisitions, I worked in London’s independent documentary scene, co-producing a journalistic documentary about the dog meat trade in Southeast Asia. For the last decade, I have been developing, producing and directing programming at the BBC Natural History Unit. Here I specialised in observational wildlife conservation programming, taking on the harder conservation issues seen on the BBC channels such as illegal wildlife trade and deforestation. My role in BBC Two’s Bears About the House series was the first impact production role inside the BBC NHU, a series which has been nominated for an impact award at the prestigious Wildscreen Festival. My hope is for impact production to become established in the wildlife television industry where there lies so much power and potential to drive change for our living planet – this is something I will be working on no doubt! For me, the wildlife crisis we are facing today, is a human crisis. When we protect key wildlife species, we protect vital ecosystems which mitigate climate change and on which millions of human livelihoods depend on. For this reason, I founded IMPACTWILD, a Bristol-based impact production company that utilises the power of storytelling to action change at the heart of the biodiversity crisis.
