Bio
Ana Portnoy Brimmer is a poet, translator, impact producer, and organizer from Puerto Rico. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Puerto Rico and is an alumna of the M.F.A. program in Creative Writing at Rutgers University-Newark. She worked as Impact Producer for the documentary LANDFALL (Blackscrackle Films, 2020) and Impact Manager for the documentary UNSEEN (Pawikan Films, 2024). To Love an Island, her debut poetry collection, was originally the winner of YesYes Books' 2019 Vinyl 45 Chapbook Contest. Que tiemble, a derivative work of poetry in Spanish, was published with La Impresora; and Aimer une île, a translation of Que tiemble into French by Benjamin Haroun Montesano, was published with Editorial Pulpo. Ana is a Hedgebrook Writers-in-Residence Program alumna, she was awarded a 2023 MASS MoCA Fellowship for Artists from Puerto Rico, and was named one of Poets & Writers 2021 Debut Poets. Her work has been published in The Paris Review, Hostos Review, Prairie Schooner, Southeast Review, Society and Space, SX Salon, Aftershocks of Disaster: Puerto Rico Before and After the Storm, Centro Journal, among others. Ana is the daughter of Mexican-Jewish immigrants and resides in Puerto Rico.
