Bio
Amanda Chen is a strategist and program leader with deep experience at the intersection of philanthropy, media, and social change. She’s spent two decades designing and executing initiatives that connect storytelling to systems change: shaping public narratives, influencing policy, and building lasting partnerships across sectors.
As Head of Impact and Engagement at Participant, Amanda led campaigns for films like An Inconvenient Sequel, Dark Waters, The First Wave, Descendant, and All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, collaborating with Netflix, Nat Geo, YouTube, Focus Features, and NEON. Her work helped redefine how stories can be used as tools for awareness, action, and accountability.
She’s now a Founding Partner at MATR Labs, where she advises philanthropies, filmmakers, and nonprofits on impact strategy, narrative change, and program development. Amanda is especially passionate about initiatives that advance equity, shift systems, and translate bold ideas into real-world outcomes.
Previously, she led global health initiatives at the Clinton Global Initiative and has consulted on major philanthropic efforts across democracy, gender justice, and behavioral health.
Amanda is a Southern California Leadership Network Fellow and was named one of Variety’s New Hollywood Leaders in Social Impact. She holds a B.A. in International Development and an M.A. in Global Political Economy. She lives in Los Angeles with her partner, daughter, and pup.
